Tria and the Honu Band : at Picnic Under the Monkey Pod Tree!
Haiku’s Tria and the Honu band was featured for August’s Picnic Under the Monkey pod tree at the Kaahumanu church in Wailuku! This was the bands debut of Tria’s newly recorded album entitled Honu-island melodies for kids. It was quite a refreshing event where the happy audience were mainly 1-5 year old and 65 and up! “I had a vision of bringing together the little ones with our Kupuna (grandparents) to interact, play and sing together,” says Tria. Everyone did indeed sing a long, laugh together and enjoyed the show. Tria’s playful songs were inspired by her 2 year old daughter Aleia and are full of everyday adventures on Maui that we all relate to….was super fun following her movements …. not to mention her voice is so pure and captivating! So great for every every child and the child within everyone! She also had invited special guests Lei Richmond and Charlotte Hortsman, her beautiful hula sisters. They performed gorgeous dances and taught everyone fun hula moves. Keep and eye out for future performances. You and your family definitely don’t want to miss! Her band members include Pono Fried (nose flute), Pamela Polland (back up vocals), Marcus Johnson (bass) and Kalani Smythe (uke and guitar).
